Labor Day Weekend Around the Twin Cities
Labor Day. What is this holiday really all about? Labor Day is a federal holiday first celebrated in 1882 in New York City. It came about during the labor movement and is dedicated to the achievements and successes of American workers. In 1884, the first Monday in September was officially selected as the day of observation. The “workingmen’s holiday” idea spread to other cities with the growth of labor organizations and speeches, festivals and parades began to occur throughout the nation. It is time for all workers and their families to rejoice and celebrate their hard work and contributions to society.
Generally, Labor Day signifies the last big fling of summer and the end of summer vacation. More traditional forms of celebration include family picnics, barbecues, fireworks, camping and the final escape to the cabin for the year. Minnesotan’s can still take advantage of the Renaissance Festival or the Minnesota State Fair which is open through Labor Day. Water sports are still a popular attraction along the Chain of Lakes in the twin cities along with free music performances and shows in the band shells. You can also hit the local farmer’s market for one last visit, go to the zoo or enjoy local art exhibits.
All of us at the Cheryl Brenna Group wish each and every one of you a restful, pleasant and happy Labor Day weekend whatever you choose to do. We acknowledge and value all of your contributions made to the security and well-being of our country. We also would like to take this time to reflect on the good things that have happened in our lives so far this year and look forward to more good things to come. Although Labor Day marks the end of summer, it also marks new beginnings with the start of fall and the start of a new school year. Enjoy the long weekend!

Dear Neighbors, Friends and Family,
Another year has passed, and the holidays are once again upon us. As I write this letter, I can’t ignore the fact that the world is ever changing. I truly believe that positive change is on the way – in each of us and around the globe. Learning to accept ongoing change is the key to success. Being comfortable in the face of the unknown builds peace of mind and keeps stress at bay. Of course, achieving that is a work in progress, and our group is ready to meet that challenge head-on.
What an eventful year it has been. Jeff and I have welcomed into our family a fabulous son-in-law and two more grandchildren (a total of seven, all with boundless energy). And we’ve welcomed a new member to our group: Kaiva Lacis-Huff. We are so fortunate to have them in our lives.
And so I focus on our blessings – and there are many; friends and family, colleagues and clients, and the ability to reflect on the gifts of life and accept the hurdles.
At the close of another year, I gratefully pause to wish you a warm and happy holiday season and a peaceful and prosperous new year.
“If there is light in the soul,
there will be beauty in the person.
If there is beauty in the person,
there will be harmony in the house.
If there is harmony in the house,
there will be order in the nation.
If there is order in the nation,
there will be peace in the world.”

Happy Holidays,
